"Planet M" at the Expo 2000

The heart of the EXPO 2000 world exhibition was the EXPO Plaza and the Bertelsmann pavilion "Planet M/ Media for People". Inside, a multimedia journey through time awaited the visitors. They entered the sphere, which resembled a spaceship, via an elevator platform. This elevator platform is considered to be the largest passenger elevator in the world. 200 people could be transported at the same time. The total weight of the elevator was almost 50 tons. Four pistons lifted it upwards using oil hydraulics, surrounded by a "giant bellows". This "giant bellows" is still one of the most outstanding and complex tasks in the realization of one of the largest bellows in the world. We manufactured it from plastic-coated fabric in just four weeks. The "Planet M" pavilion was rightly perceived as the most innovative building of the entire EXPO. What the visitor perceived as a unit was in reality a synergy effect of ideas, experience and high-tech at the highest level. We are very proud to have made a decisive contribution to this. More information on this project is available on request.
